year of the golden oink

my english chinese new year started with gong hei fatt choys,
mandarin eating, and lou heis 35,000 feet above the ground.
had a quiet night upon touching down in london,
but the next day was spent weaving through the throngs in chinatown,
having dim sum at laureate,
and watching the new year parade from the restaurant's second floor window.
dragon dances, lion dances, big-head wa-was and the works,
with a slight difference - many of the dancers were caucasians!!!
it was quite funny having a zhu-ba-jie remove his head
to reveal an ang moh underneath;
and to have a big strong jamaican with dreadlocks
prop up the dragon's head.

we got squashed while watching the fireworks/firecrackers display at trafalgar square,
and i had a mini paper dragon fight with the little boy standing next to me.
he's so cute =)
my 1-pound paper dragon ended the day with a slightly torn tail,
but it's nothing a little glue can't fix.

there were lots of red and gold, lanterns and ching chong songs,
mini drums, pighead balloons and horoscope readings,
and they even sold those little cracker things
that explode when you throw them on the floor!
bak kwas, love letters and other new year goodies were sorely missed though.
turned out that wasn't such a bad thing
since i came down with gastric flu the next day
and threw up everything i ate. bleah.

ZHU NIAN KUAI LE EVERYONE!!!!!!
