just read of the fresh terror threats supposedly from al-qaeda, that picked out los angeles and melbourne as the next targets.
on the 4th aniversary of the september 11 attacks, a masked man delivered the following threat in an 11-minute video:
"yesterday, london and madrid. tomorrow, los angeles and melbourne. allah willing. and this time, don't count on us demonstrating restraint or compassion.
we are muslims. we love peace, but peace on our terms...
we love peace, but when the enemy violates that peace, or prevents us from achieving it, then we love nothing better than the heat of battle, the echo of explosions, and slitting the throats of the infidels."

to listen to these utterly devastating words actually come out of a man's mouth, to know that all that he said had been done before, to see that humans are actually capable of such inhumane acts.
the possibility of tragedy makes all my other worries seem so frivolous. the helplessness so acute.
i worry...for all my loved ones overseas, and for my beautiful melbourne.
and all i can do is hold my breath, and pray that nothing ill will happen.
